7 Amazing Steps to Your Alaska Private Investigator License

Alaska is an interesting state. This is because an Alaska private investigator license really does not exist. However, cities such as Anchorage and Fairbanks have licensing requirements. Here is what you need to know.

1. You Must be 18 Years Old

The code is very specific about age. For example, if you are under 18 years of age, you can not get a private investigator license in Alaska.

2. You Must be a United States Citizen for an Alaska Private Investigator License

Only the city of Fairbanks has this requirement. In contrast, the rest of the state does not have requirements about citizenship.

3. You Must Have a Clear Criminal History [1 – 10 years]

For the city of Anchorage, you must not have a felony conviction within two years. Above all, you can not have a misdemeanor involving assault or dangerous weapon within one year.

Anchorage also has a catch-all. You can not be convicted of a crime involving (within ten years):

  • moral turpitude
  • assault with dangerous weapon
  • traffic in narcotics or dangerous drugs
  • traffic in women for immoral purposes

The city of Fairbanks has similar restrictions. For example, you must not have a felony conviction within eight years.

Also, you can not have a misdemeanor conviction within four years that include:

  • prostitution
  • controlled substances
  • use of force on persons
  • embezzlement
  • sexual offenses

4. You Must be Certified by Chief of Police [Anchorage]

In Anchorage, the chief of police reviews applications for private detective agency licenses. He also certifies applicants who may have criminal histories but may exempt.

Further, an agency has to obtain similar certifications for each detective.

5. You Must Not be Addicted to Intoxicants of Narcotics

This law applies to both cities.

6. You Must be Bonded [Fairbanks]

In Fairbanks, you must secure a bond before applying for a license. Moreover, the city requires that you file a surety bond in the sum of $10,000. The city attorney will need to approve the bond.
